On Saturday and Sunday, the American Modern Ensemble's Musical Mavericks promises some stimulating fare, with Michael Lowenstern's Spasm, two works by group founder Robert Paterson (including the New York premiere of Piranha) and Declaratives in the First Person by Pamela Z. The concerts will also include Sean McClowry's April '94, this year's winner of the ensemble's composition competition. One of the best of a number of young new music groups that have cropped up in the last few years, AME has made its mark with original programming coupled with superb musicianship, as their enthusiastic crowds can attest.
