In my favorite blog post last February, Alex Ross detailed the dreaded "night of ten new music concerts" in which not two, not five but ten different events were scheduled on the same evening in New York. This week promises similar density if not quite as dramatic. But his amusingly titled "Axis of failure agenda" omitted the one I'll attend on Saturday night, by the recently formed American Modern Ensemble. In a large menu of composers, conductor Robert Paterson's new piece might win the Title of the Week award: The Thin Ice of Your Fragile Mind.
[Brain scans by Michael Abbott.]
"The Thin Ice of Your Fragile Mind."
It's titles like that, that Satie loved to deflate, you know :-)
Cheers,
