For some reason, this Thursday is another one of those nights when New York concertgoers—especially those who crave 20th and 21st-century works—will want to pull their hair out. At Miller Theatre, composer Helmut Lachenmann will be on hand for a 75th birthday bash featuring Signal and the JACK Quartet. At The Tank, David Bowlin and Jennifer Curtis (of the International Contemporary Ensemble) will face off in a "Violin Showdown," playing Nono, Davidovsky, Enescu and Ysaÿe. The Da Capo Chamber Players will collaborate with the Yass Hakoshima Movement Theatre in the New York premiere of Rashomon (or Encounter Under the Abandoned Cloud-Gate) by Raymond J. Lustig at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre. And Leonard Slatkin will lead the Juilliard Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall in a tribute to William Schuman, marking the 100th anniversary of the composer's birth.
