Say "yes, yes" to Nono

I can't help but feel a bit lucky, hearing Wednesday's Nono performance by the International Contemporary Ensemble.  In case I don't have time to expound on it later, you can read Steve Smith's vibrant account of the first night. 

Apparently this piece has not been done in the United States since the 1970s, so I hope the hardy ICE players will consider a repeat.  Meanwhile, they are taking it to Morelia, Mexico, on a program that includes George Crumb's Black Angels (for electric string quartet) and 16, a work by Jason Eckardt, which you can preview here.
